THE ROAD OPENS FOR AUGUST 2025!
Two exciting developments in the past few weeks mean that, after the setbacks in May that forced us to delay opening for a year, New Village Academy now has a clear pathway to opening in Annapolis Mall in August 2025.
First and foremost, the fantastic new owners of Annapolis Mall, Centennial Real Estate, are on board with our plan to build a beautiful facility on the second floor of the former Lord & Taylor! They reached out to us to begin negotiations in June and we now have signed an agreement that outlines the terms of our 20-year lease, with formal lease negotiations coming soon.
In addition, we have been awarded the Maryland Momentum Project Charter School Program grant, with 3 years of federal funding for specific parts of our school – furniture, professional development, and some of our planning costs. Overall, we will have $2 million of our expenses reimbursed by this grant!
Since our last newsletter, we’ve also received pledges of $500,000 from Anne Arundel County toward the cost of constructing our amazing school building in the Mall, $50,000 from Whiting-Turner, our construction management firm, and another $30,000 in additional pledges and donations.
Starting a new school is expensive, so all this support (and more!) is essential to get us to opening day. Once we open, AACPS will provide the per-pupil funding for our basic operation (but not for facility costs), but in this “Launch Year,” we need to raise 100% of the funds for curriculum design, construction, enrollment, and hiring. If you are able to help, you can donate HERE! Even a small contribution helps!
CURIOUS? COME TO AN OPEN HOUSE!
Do you have questions about whether New Village is the right school for your child? Do you want to make YOUR mark on New Village Academy’s program? Or maybe you just want to meet the people crazy enough to start a new high school! Come out to see us at Discoveries, the Library in Westfield Annapolis Mall on Tuesday evening September 17, 6:00-7:30 pm!
We will give a presentation, and ask YOU to give us your opinions and ideas about the design of our New Village Academy learning space, the Community Action Projects that YOU would like to see students take on, and the things YOU think every high school graduate should know or be. We’ll also have snacks and extra materials for you to share with your friends and neighbors!
