How To Apply

New Village Academy is open to any Anne Arundel County resident going into Grades 9-12 in Fall 2025.

Important Note: New Village Academy embraces all families regardless of size, shape, gender, immigration status, income, language, religion, or cultural identity. Undocumented families are welcome at New Village!

STEP 1 – Connect with us!

Complete the Family Interest Form to tell us about your student, ask questions, and join our mailing list, if you haven’t already done so. (This is not the required lottery application!)

STEP 2 – Apply for the Lottery on the AACPS Website!

Go to the AACPS Magnet and Charter Lottery Portal here to sign in with your child’s AACPS ID number and password and choose New Village Academy from the dropdown menu. The Lottery Window for the 2025-26 school year opens October 7th, 2024.

ALL Anne Arundel County residents are eligible to apply, regardless of immigration status.

STEP 3 – Accept a spot!

Once the Lottery is run (by an independent company) in late January 2025, we will reach out to everyone on the AACPS acceptance list. It is based on a random lottery, with preference for low-income (Free and Reduced Meals), English learners, Annapolis families, and siblings of students who are already enrolled. Other students will be put on a fast-moving waiting list.

You will then need to decide quickly whether you want to accept the spot, to make room for those on the waiting list. While applying for the lottery does NOT commit your student to New Village Academy, accepting the offer of a seat DOES mean your student is choosing New Village Academy and plans to attend in the Fall! We host virtual and in-person information sessions throughout the school year. We strongly recommend you attend to learn more about the school.

STEP 4 – Spring Enrollment Documents!

New Village Academy staff will reach out to enroll accepted students during the Spring. We will need paperwork that confirms Anne Arundel County residence, free and reduced lunch status, medical forms, etc. We’ll help you through this process!

High school transfer students who have specific questions about transfer and recovery credit will meet with the principal to determine credit status and ensure a smooth transition to our competency-based assessment structure.

STEP 5 – Summer Onboarding and Home Visit!

Your student’s Crew Leader (their home-base teacher for all 4 years and your primary contact at the school) will reach out to you to set a date for a home visit to meet the whole family and to make sure students and families are ready to hit the ground running on Opening Day! (Another meeting location can be arranged, if needed.)

STEP 6 – Show up and Celebrate Day One at New Village!

Our Opening Day in August 2025 will be a BIG DEAL! Plan to bring your student to school if you can, and join our morning festivities!
