Sandra Anez Powell, M.P.A.
Sandra Powell is a Venezuelan-born artist and community activist. She moved to Annapolis three years ago from Kentucky, where she lived with her husband, Dr. Normal Powell and raised two sons. She is a health advocate, currently for Wellspring, and has also worked for Head Start, Kentucky Children’s Health Program, and Anthem Medicaid. She is founder of many initiatives, such as “SEMIA” the (South Eastern Medical Interpreter
Association), the first medical interpreter association in Kentucky, the Bluegrass Community Health Clinic (a clinic for migrant farmworkers), and a self- help women’s leadership development group, “Mujeres Unidas” (Women United). Her family, her art, and social justice are her passions.
