The admissions process at NVLA is an informative one that allows the Admissions Committee to become familiar with the student, and the student and family to learn more about the school as well.
Our goal is to admit students who can benefit from NVLA’s academic and social environment. NVLA prides itself on enrolling students of all faiths, races, creeds, colors, national origins and socioeconomic background who each contribute a variety of talents, experiences and goals to the New Village Leadership Academy. Both the applicant and NVLA community, as a whole, are considered in making admissions decisions. The admission’s process is as follows: School Tour Parent(s), without their children, are invited to visit NVLA to tour the classrooms and campus. They are introduced to all teachers at their child’s level and sit in on classes to get an understanding of how the educational process works at NVLA. The parent(s) are welcome to meet with Dr. Jacqueline Olivier, Head of School, to discuss the school in greater detail and to have all questions answered regarding the admissions process and the school. School tours are currently being scheduled; they will begin in mid-July when we are in our new school site.
Application for Admission If there is interest after the tour, parents can request an Admissions packet to learn more about our school and admissions process. This packet is to be totally completed prior to the next step. Because our tours will not begin until July, parents are welcome to request an Admissions packet by contacting the school.
Student/Parent Tour During the school year, after the Admissions Application is filled out and sent in, the family will be contacted and the student will be invited to visit NVLA with his/her parent(s) and participate in the school day. In the elementary school, the academic portion of the tour begins at 8:45a.m. on the scheduled tour date and continues until 12:30 p.m. The student participates with other NVLA students during the academic portion of the school day allowing him/her to get a feel for our academic environment, meet students at his or her grade level, and make a decision about how well he/she fits into our environment. This is also a time for the parent(s) to see their child’s ability to acclimate to a new environment and make a more informed decision about whether their child will thrive at NVLA. Parents are permitted to observe the student in the classroom until 10:30 a.m., then leave in order to allow the student to fully participate in the school with the freedom of not being observed. The second part of the day, the Student Assessment, begins immediately after lunch and lasts about 2 hours. For our Pre-Kindergarten class, parents are welcome to remain with the student in class; the amount of time of student participation is flexible. Assessment Testing NVLA requires all prospective students to take an assessment test for academic placement. NVLA tests each applicant’s reading and math abilities to correctly place him or her in an individualized program. Notification Admission to the New Village Leadership Academy is based upon assessment of the child in regard to developmental readiness and academic ability, previous school records and recommendations, NVLA teacher evaluations and testing administered at our school and space availablilty. All applicants will be contacted via mail approximately two weeks after the Parent/Student tour. We have a rolling admissions policy, which means that applications are accepted at any time. Non-Discrimination Policy The School encourages and invites all students without regard to sex, race, color, religion, physical ability, national or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities made available to the student body. We value a diverse student enrollment and a curriculum that instills appreciation for all cultures, including one's own. It is our highest expectation that our students both respect individual and cultural differences and has a commitment towards enhancing our common humanity, as to prepare them to assume their responsibility to themselves, their families, communities, countries, and as citizens of the world.
